A dramatic retelling of the story of Sita and Rama to celebrate Diwali – the Hindu Festival of Lights.
The Hindu celebration of light’s triumph over darkness inspired this charming piece, premiered in Manchester but designed to be adapted to a range of outdoor spaces and audiences.
Manchester’s gothic Town Hall once more provided us with exciting lighting possibilities for our 2017 Diwali production – and inspired us to create an intricate, shadow-rich backdrop for what became The Blessing.
The show began with our mechanical moving Bengal tiger leading a community parade into Albert Square, before the legendary story of Sita and Rama unfolded before them. Around 1,500 people were transfixed by the show, which used music, lighting and special effects – before a climactic pyrotechnic display fired from the roof of Manchester Town Hall.
‘Creating a show for a city square provides endless dramatic possibilities and technical challenges – but by using a clever mix of effects, we created a multi-sensory experience that appealed to everyone. We were delighted to be working again with the Indian Association Manchester, fantastic ambassadors for our work and great collaborative partners.’
