Midsummer Mystery – an outdoor celebration which took place on Saturday 22 June 2024 at Breivika
One year ago, in June 2023, nine citizens of Bodø stepped forward to work with us, to explore the landscape of sea, islands and a growing city... we built structures, heard stories, and played with fire on the eve of Sankthans... the story of masked creatures and a Captain lost in time was born.
For this outdoor celebration of Nordland’s landscape and nautical heritage, told through fire, games, song and human effort, we created an unusual structure: a beacon that was raised and burnt, sending a signal from the Arctic.
Local vessels accompanied the arrival of the small ship which brought our hero, the Captain, to Bodø, to sell his cargo of rope. The event mixed interactive play with a salty North Norwegian fairytale and magical original music by Goril Nilsen.
