There’s nothing we like more than a blank slate and a willing partner. Tailor-made from scratch for people, places and special events, our bespoke commissions are our signature projects.
Bespoke Commissions
From artistic vision to audience participation, inclusivity to legacy, every bespoke event is unique. Our journey from initial commission to final production never follows the same path, because every project has a character all its own.
Bespoke Commissions
Step #1 - The Idea
Perhaps you have a moment in mind: an anniversary to mark, an opening or closing ceremony to celebrate, a festival or special event in the calendar. Or perhaps you just think you’d like to do something, somewhere, some time. Whether specific or vague, hazy or clear, that’s enough to make a start.
Step #2 - The First Conversation
Everything we do starts with a conversation, and that first conversation is often the most important one we’ll have – setting the tone, building the relationship and sparking the imagination. We’re collaborators by nature, and conversations will help us work together to make the event or show what you want.
Step #3 - Exploring the Possibilities
From daytime processions to nighttime spectaculars, we’ve been making major outdoor events for more than 30 years, and our experience has given us a good sense of what works and what doesn’t. Keeping in mind the nature and budget of your event, we’ll talk you through some of our past projects – and together, we’ll consider such key strands as inclusivity, engagement, sustainability and legacy.
Step #4 - Engagement
The heart of many bespoke commissions are the people and communities of the places where we work. We’ll collaborate with you to devise and deliver an engagement strategy that ensures our event is absolutely rooted where you are – and that it wouldn’t be the same anywhere else.

Step #5 - Working with Artists
Our engagement doesn’t just extend to connecting with your local communities. We’ll build a project team that includes artists and creative practitioners from your area, further embedding a sense of place and local pride in the event – and, perhaps, bringing the work of these local artists to a wider audience than they’ve ever enjoyed before.
Step #6 - The Big Day - or Night
Our creativity is our most visible calling card – but behind the scenes, we’re also experts in event production and management, with a wealth of experience that means any and every event goes off without a hitch. On the big day or night, we’ll make sure everything happens as smoothly and safely as possible – always working in collaboration with your local partners where necessary.
Step #7 - The Legacy
Every work we make is a moment in time, a you-had-to-be-there celebration that cameras or phones can’t hope to capture. But from European Capital of Culture Opening Ceremonies to local festivals rooted in time and place, we also want to leave a legacy that lasts far beyond the frozen moment of each event. Whether through our collaborations with local artists or our engagement with the people of your town or city, we always want to leave a little of our magic behind us.
