Gareth Hughes

Gareth joined Walk the Plank as a permanent staff member in January 2024. He first worked with Walk the Plank in 2012/13, leading production for Freedom Festival and GamesTime, part of the Olympics cultural programme, and he possesses extensive experience in project and event management services for cultural events and festivals, including his role as the Head of Production for Hull Capital of Culture in 2017 and Technical Director at the World Transplant Games 2018 in Newcastle. 

As a key member of Walk the Plank’s freelance workforce for many years, he recently travelled to Canada in 2023 with BODY, which Gareth will now take forward as Producer; and he was previously part of the team delivering Festival Management Training for the British Council West Africa. He continues to advise local authorities, commissioning bodies and creative companies on event and production management and health and safety.
