Volunteer opportunities at Manchester Diwali 2017

Gain experience in outdoor arts and performance

As part of the Manchester Dashera Diwali Mela 2017, there is an amazing opportunity to work with one of the UK’s leading outdoor arts companies, Walk the Plank on a special outdoor theatrical event in the heart of Manchester.

Walk the Plank are looking for 9 volunteers to become part of the team as either a cast member, stage manager or puppeteer. The volunteers would be working alongside Artistic Director Nick Clarke and our dedicated and experienced stage management team.

A Blessing from Durga will be performed to a large audience in Albert Square. The show take its inspiration from the Indian Mythology and traditions and will be a multi-sensory, immersive theatrical spectacle performance to delight people of all ages with live dramatic text, music, lights, puppetry and pyrotechnics.

Walk the Plank is one of the UK’s leading outdoor arts organisations, creating unique outdoor shows across the UK and all over the world. Earlier this year they staged Eternal Voyages, the highlight of the Pafos 2017 European Capital of Culture programme, directed by Nick Clarke. They also produce the annual Manchester Day and in 2015 won Best Outdoor for their Derry-Londonderry UK Capital Culture celebrations.

This is a great opportunity to work alongside and learn from experienced outdoor professionals. The volunteers will play an integral part in the show and will receive a full briefing ahead of the event and spend time developing their role.

To take part, you will need to be 16 or over, be available for the following dates and times:

  • Friday 13th October 2017 from 3pm – 9.30pm
  • Saturday 14th October 2017 from 3pm – 9:30pm
