Shona McCarthy appointed head of board of trustees
Salford-based outdoor arts company Walk the Plank has appointed Shona McCarthy as its new chair of its board of trustees as it heads towards the redevelopment of a combined outdoor arts centre of excellence on a new site in Cobden Street, Salford ahead of its 25th anniversary in 2017.
Shona, who now runs her own consultancy company, has just been appointed Chief Executive of Edinburgh Fringe, the world’s largest arts festival.
Shona has a wealth of experience in cultural community engagement and led on the delivery of the first UK City of Culture in Derry-Londonderry 2013, raising a phenomenal budget of over £20million to deliver a world class programme of transformative events working in collaboration with Walk the Plank in their role as creative directors.

With an Eisenhower Fellowship for Innovation and former Director of British Council Northern Ireland, Shona’s various accolades are supported by an extensive portfolio of cultural engagement work on a truly global scale. From her work in the US and India to Jordan and Oman, Shona clearly brings a truly global perspective to her new role with Walk the Plank which is planning to move to its new site in spring/summer 2017.
