For this new parade along Mostyn Street we're drawing on the myths and legends of the Orme, the iconic limestone headland that provides a dramatic backdrop to the Victorian seaside town of Llandudno.

Across the UK, towns and cities are increasingly developing their winter programme of events to draw in both local audiences and tourists to experience new and different events.  Winter Light - Golau Gaeaf is an early evening event designed to appeal to people of all ages and, as part of the creative process, draw in local artists and members of the community.

Chapter 1, the parade takes place on Saturday November 16, at 7pm on Mostyn Street, followed by Chapter 2 on Saturday December 14, also at 7pm featuring projections on to a strip of buildings facing North Western Gardens.

Mixing mystery and myth, the parade will be a visual, sensory feast with various groups of participants helping to bring alive a loose narrative based around lost beasts finally emerging from their slumber on the Orme.

"And so…..we begin the first chapter in a long forgotten story of the great Orme, bringing to life centuries old myths that finally dare to reveal their secrets.

Led by a Viking ship and a throng of Viking warriors with flaming torches, these fearless warriors will pave the way for a bizarre but beguiling parade of beasts and monsters.

A winter procession that will enthral everyone, the unfolding mystery of long lost legends will come to life in a parade that also features a Victorian ring master and a group of circus performers, left over from the good old days, accompanied by monsters and a gang of monster catchers – determined to tame these wild, unruly beasts.

To the rear of the procession, emerging from a thick mist created by its steaming breath is Ychen Bannong, an Ox-like beast that has emerged from its slumber."

“Winter Light is a new and exciting procession in November 2019 which we’re creating in partnership with Illuminos, in a new commission by  Conwy County Borough Council, Venue Cymru and Conwy Arts Trust.  With this unique theatrical experience on the streets of Llandudno, we wanted to make a new piece of work that draws on the myths and legends of the Orme and, in the process, give local people and artists the chance to be part of their local story.  The November parade is followed by a second chapter in December, told through a series of captivating projections from Illuminos onto a series of buildings facing North Western Gardens.”
