A Fiery Headline Show for Digital Diwali

Date: 14 November 2020 to 14 November 2020

Location: Online

Associate Producer/ Director Nick Clarke worked with longstanding collaborator, the indefatigable Rajyashree Dutta, to create an entirely digital Diwali with partners in Bolton, Bury and Oldham, supported by ACE and GMCA. Interactive workshops, and performances took advantage of the enforced digital delivery to present artists performing from India, as well as from Greater Manchester.

We created a fiery finale, filmed at Cobden Works, as a counterpoint to storytelling and dance, and mixed ‘as live’. The Home Coming’ was a 20-minute performance of dance and storytelling, featuring the final part of seven days of stories by Supriya Nagarajan’s songs in English, and a variety of Indian languages. Created and produced by Walk the Plank, the live stream concluded with Ravana, the ten-headed demon King of Lanka, lighting up in spectacular fashion. See the film here:

Supporting local businesses, Trafford-based Neuron Pro Audio supported the livestream elements; and more than 500 make at home lantern kits were distributed to the Indian and Hindu Associations so that families could follow Helen Davies’ online tutorials, aided by nine year old assistant Ella, and make their lanterns at home.
