Barry Island weekender
Helping Vale of Glamorgan Council achieve its destination tourism objectives with this crowd-pleasing summer event
For 2019 we were commissioned by Vale of Glamorgan Council to produce and deliver a key event in their summer programme.
The Barry Island weekender is a family-friendly event along the promenade and gardens that’s designed to appeal to people of all ages with a varied mix of installations and performance pieces.
Over the years it has been growing in popularity and helps play a key role in consolidating the town’s reputation as great place to enjoy the seafront during the summer.
As with all site-responsive events like this, we worked in close partnership with the council to ensure that we created an event that brought in audiences of all ages with fun and unique experiences and, in doing so, enabled local people and visitors to experience the seafront in unexpected ways.
We proposed a range of creative events, as well as an evening programme of fiery-themed activations along the promenade and in the gardens. A fiery Viking ship also made its way along the promenade and, in a more sedentary setting, Barry Island played host a considerably larger than life mock turtle.
