Reopening of the Everyman Theatre
To mark the redevelopment and reopening of Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre with a collaborative, celebratory event that brought the people of Liverpool back to their born-again theatre.
The Everyman’s Theatre’s role as a democratising force in cultural self expression and community engagement speaks for itself. And its roll call of the great and the good in theatre speaks volumes about its significance within the acting fraternity. From Julie Walters and Pete Postlethwaite to Jonathan Pryce and Willy Russell, a glitterati of acting talent has walked its boards.
So, when it came to celebrating its dramatic refurbishment it seemed only natural to create a public event that gave the people of Liverpool the chance to perform in their own homage to this much loved theatre.
The result: a collaboration with The Lantern Company, Sense of Sound and the Everyman Theatre to bring communities together with a people’s procession from The Playhouse to the Everyman combining a prosaic mix of dazzling performance, music, poetry and projection.
Buildings such as the Everyman, which command a very loyal following, deserve pivotal moments like this being marked with a dramatic finale. For this our pyrotechnics team designed a firework display that reflected the building’s confident new architectural treatment with a rooftop eruption of fountains of light and colour.
