A Wave at Picasso

Date: 16 July 2010

Location: Liverpool Pierhead

Client: Culture Liverpool

Our Brief:

As part of its ‘On the Waterfront’ festival, comprising two weekends of cultural activity on Liverpool’s Pierhead, we were commissioned by Culture Liverpool to create a nautical themed celebration of the artist linked to the Picasso: Peace and Freedom exhibition at the nearby Liverpool Tate.

Our Solution

A Wave at Picasso gave us a fantastic opportunity to draw on nearly two decades experience of delivering multi-faceted work on water. With this late night show we were able to deploy fire, light, water, projection and pyrotechnics to maximum effect with an array of musical content and choreographed performers to help celebrate the wealth of talent from this iconic artist within the wider context of Spanish art and culture.

This is a perfect example of how we create a piece of site-responsive outdoor spectacle by drawing on a wide pool of talent from outdoor artists and relate it back to a unifying theme, in this instance linking it with a blockbuster exhibition at the Tate.
