This is Derby – Volunteer call out

Closing date: 5 July 2019

Job Description

As part of the This is Derby event on 13th July, there are a number of amazing opportunities to volunteer with one of UKs leading outdoor arts companies, Walk the Plank, on a special outdoor theatrical event in the heart of Derby.

Walk the Plank are looking for 9 volunteers to become part of the team as either:

Stage Manager, working alongside our dedicated and experienced stage management team. Design Assistant or Crew Members, working alongside our Theatrical designer and SFX and production management team.

#ThisisDerby is a unique project led by Derby County Community Trust, Derby’s Cultural Education Partnership and the City’s Sports Forum, who, together, are providing opportunities for young people to take part in high-quality arts, sports and cultural activities.

“There’s nothing to do in derby” is a one day event which will celebrate the talents and achievements of the city’s young people in a vibrant takeover of Derby’s Market Place on Saturday 13th July 2019. Arts, culture and sport activities will bring the Market Place to life as young people share stories of their communities and inspire a city that actually does have a lot to offer. The day will conclude with a spectacular finale.

Walk the Plank is one of the UK’s leading outdoor arts organisations, creating unique outdoor shows across the UK and all over the world. In 2017, they staged Eternal Voyages, the highlight of the Pafos 2017 European Capital of Culture programme, directed by Nick Clarke. They also produce the annual Manchester Day Parade, and in 2015, won Best Outdoor Event at the prestigious Event Awards for their weekend of events, includ-ing a floating Loch Ness Monster on the River Foyle, as part of the Derry-Londonderry UK Capital Culture celebrations.

The volunteers will play an integral part in the event and will be vital to its smooth running. This is a great opportunity for anyone studying theatre / events, and offers valuable experience of working in the outdoor sector.
Volunteers will receive a full briefing ahead of the event and spend time developing their role.
To take part, you will need to be 16 or over, be available for the following dates and times:

Friday 12th July 2019 from 12pm – 9.30pm.
