Casting Call: ‘Cast the Light’

Job Description

Walk the Plank are seeking 3 performers for ‘Cast the Light’, an ambitious piece of storytelling celebrating Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.

Created and produced by Walk the Plank, in association with Bolton Hindu Forum, Indian Association Oldham, Shree Bharatiya Mandal, Ashton, and The Met (Bury).

‘Cast the Light’ will be filmed and broadcast online as a feature of Greater Manchester’s Digital Diwali programme.

A battle of inner light over spiritual darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. A classic tale following the journey of Ram and Sita, a prince and princess torn apart by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka. A sacred story of trickery, love, determination, and the most incredible feat that helps Rama rescue his beloved Sita and light a lamp to ignite a billion others.

  • Rama
    A true warrior and a noble prince with staunch resolve.
    Gender: Male
    Age: 25 – 30 years old
    Ethnicity / Build: non-specific / athletic
    Characteristics: gentle and compassionate.
    Other: Excellent movement skills. Ability to dance preferred.
  • Ravana
    A devious and intelligent king.
    Gender: Male
    Age: 40 – 45 years old
    Ethnicity / Build: Asian / average.
    Characteristics: calm, commanding, selfish, and sinister.
    Other: Excellent movement skills.
  • Sita
    A princess with great virtue and immeasurable patience.
    Gender: Female
    Age: 25 – 30yrs years old.
    Ethnicity / Build: Asian / small – medium
    Other: Excellent movement skills. Ability to dance preferred


18th – 29th October (estimated 8 – 9 days)

Fee: £988 (£494.00 x 2 weeks)

Auditions: 1st October 2021
