Celebrating science and invention on Manchester Day, June 19 2016

“Once again we’ve been overwhelmed with inquiries which has made this year’s selection process all the more challenging. However, if you’re not part of a community group there’s still chance to join our Wow Crowd which gives individuals the chance to get involved in a collective project and take part in the parade.”

Ellie Turner, Creative Producer for Manchester Day

The theme for this year’s Manchester Day, which is to be held on Sunday June 19, is Eureka! – celebrating Manchester’s amazing history as a powerhouse of invention, scientific breakthroughs and world firsts.

Coinciding with Manchester being chosen as host city for the European City of Science 2016, the Eureka! theme is designed to give community groups a broad range of possibilities for creative interpretations.

We’ve already been working with the creative team at Manchester City Council to work through the promotional ideas for this year’s big day which looks set to celebrate everything from the downright eccentric to landmark moments of pure genius.

We had an incredible response from community groups to take part this year, and as usual have only been able to select less than half of the 97 applications we received. We’d like to thank everyone who submitted an application and if you’ve been unsuccessful this, please try again in 2017.
