Cobden Works pre-build launch event
Fiery installation marks imminent start of Cobden Works creative hub
After several years of planning and fundraising, we’re now tantalisingly close to starting work on our new multi-purpose outdoor arts creative hub at Cobden Street, less than a mile away from our current base in Broad Street.
With a busy programme of shows heading our way over the summer, we decided to pre-empt imminent construction work with a good luck drink with our friends from Arts Council England, who have awarded us £500,000 towards our new home, as well as councillors and other their colleagues from Salford City Council.
While our work is seen and experienced on a national and international scale, we’ve never lost sight of the fact that much of the planning of our work happens in Salford. So, it was great to invite everyone along to see inside the space that will be redeveloped into a multi-purpose creative hub which will include workshop studios, offices and a training and education space.
Never one to miss the opportunity for a spot of site-responsive theatre, guests we’re invited into an empty warehouse space only to come across a flaming cauldron. Several hours later, we returned to create a nocturnal installation with the addition of fire cans to make the fiery start to this exciting project. Work is due to start in July 2016 with completion planned for August/September 2017.
