April – News from Walk the Plank

Spring news from Walk the Plank!

Starting the year in full swing, we have brought BODY to Belfast, launched a trial event for Green Space Dark Skies, and filled Salford High Street with music and celebration.

Our Head of Production, Nathan Jackson, continued to champion sustainability when he sat down to chat with Access All Areas; and Creative Producer, Liz Pugh, recently took part in Articulture’s Outdoor Arts Gathering in Wales and attended the IETM Focus: Fair Enough? on advancing fairer working practices in the performing arts.

Manchester Day is back to delight and Green Space Dark Skies begins with its first event designed to coincide with the anniversary of the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass.

Welcome to spring at Walk the Plank, let’s get outdoors!

What we’ve been up to…

Green Space Dark Skies

This March, the Green Space Dark Skies trial event brought people together in an Iron Age hill fort, Dinas Dinlle, to test the low impact geolights, designed by technology partners Siemens and Core Lighting.

The first official Green Space Dark Skies event is taking place at the UK’s original National Park, in the Peak District, on Saturday 23 April, the eve of the 90th anniversary of the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass — a major inspiration for Green Space Dark Skies.

Keep up to date with our Green Space Dark Skies journey.

🎥 As we continue our journey into the landscape, we will be sharing films from every event, as well as stories, photos, music and more. If you take part as a Lumenator, or just want to see what Green Space Dark Skies is getting up to, be sure to check out our film pages.

Organisational Development

In January our team had the opportunity to come together for a company development day led by My Next Chapter. We reflected on the impressive 30-year history of Walk the Plank, our work culture, our sector and looked toward to our organisation’s future.

In March we began Equality, Diversity and Inclusion sessions, facilitated by Kami Nuttall at Belonging Pioneers. Supported by Walk the Plank’s EDI group, these sessions are creating vital space for our team to reflect, discuss and take action to achieve our organisation’s Diversity, Equality and Inclusion commitments.

BODY at the NI Science Festival in Belfast

Back in February, our immersive installation BODY came to life at the NI Science Festival. Inspired by anatomical science, BODY combines fire and gas technology with sound and special effects to take audiences inside the workings of the human form. Now booking — find out more.

“A beautiful, immersive and spectacular audio-visual delight!”

Salford High Streets Tour Finale

March was full of music, art, and celebration at the Salford High Streets Tour Finale in Eccles. After a successful set of events in February, Sounds from the Other City, in conjunction with Walk the Plank and Langworthy Live, brought local artists together to create a fantastic line-up of live performances and art projects.
