Our autumn programme not only provides great learning opportunities for creative practitioners interested in the use of light with fireworks and video mapping, but also provides the chance to work with some leading names in mask and costume-making, and explore the use of colour through textiles.
And finally, if you’re eager to build your skills around using technology to present and promote your work we have two experts who can equip you with some smart skills on how to draw attention to what you do.

ELEVATE 2018 - Masterclass & Talk Details

TALK
Firework Display Design
Thursday 4th October, 6-9pm
Evening talk/presentation with Richard Babington and Pete Finegan

An opportunity to discover the process & creative thought behind creating a spectacular firework display from two of WTP's leading firework designers. The evening will include explanation, practical examples, design principles and creative content from their careers to date.

PHYSICAL WORKSHOP
The Importance of Visual Image In Theatre with Barbara Vijayakumar

Thursday 18th October, 9.45am-4pm

An introduction to Kathakali performing skills, characters and how to express emotion through body language. Create your own movements and explore colour and the impact it has on both the performer and the audience.
This workshop is suitable for people who wish to do both movement and art work. Please note the exercises will be fast moving.  Please wear loose fitted clothing suitable for movement.

PRACTICAL WORKSHOP
Illuminos: Rob & Matt Vale - Fill The Night With Light
Thursday 25th October, 2-8pm

A chance to share the world of Illuminos and their outstanding use of video mapping, storytelling & illustration on a giant scale.
A working knowledge of photoshop is an advantage and participants must provide their own computer/laptop.

PRACTICAL WORKSHOP
Video Production for iPhone with Imran Azan
Thursday 1st November, 10am-5pm

A practical workshop to equip you with tech-savvy skills to record your work, and to use it as both an archive and a marketing tool.
A working knowledge of iphone software is an advantage and participants must provide their own computer/laptop.

PRACTICAL WORKSHOP
Colour and Texture Through Textiles’ with Rosalind Johannson
Thursday 15th November, 10am-5pm

Rosalind’s masterclass will give insights into both her own practice as an international textile artist and her understanding of cultural & emotional responses to colour & design. This practical making workshop will focus on colour and geometry, using simple collaging rather than slower, more technical fabric methods.
Suitable for all, no sewing skills necessary as the focus will be on collage and use of colour and shape for applications like textiles.

Building A Creative Presence on Social Media with Susan Burnell
Thursday 29 November, 10am-5pm

Social media can be an extremely useful for increasing your profile and growing your contacts in the arts and creative industries. Have you set up social media accounts to promote yourself or your creative business, but don’t really know where to go next?

This practical workshop is perfect for those who already use social media but want to learn how they can make the most of their social media marketing.

Who are these masterclasses for?
The masterclass is designed for North West artists and creatives, especially those interested in outdoor arts practice.

Cost and Bursaries

Due to the unique way Elevate is funded and run, each masterclass has an allocation of bursary funded, free places which available on application to support those who would not be able to attend otherwise.

However, places are limited - book now using the links above to ensure you have a place.

Booking & Wait List Information
Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and there is a waiting list.  If you know you no longer cannot attend after you have booked, please do let us know so that we can release your place to the next person on the waiting list.

For paid workshops, refunds are only available up to 7 days before the event.

When the events get fully booked, there is a wait list option. When tickets become available these will be allocated to those on the waitlist in chronological order.

ELEVATE’18 Autumn/Winter Masterclasses: Outdoor Arts Performance

Now in its sixth year, ELEVATE is a creative practitioner and community leader development programme, for curious creative adventurers, wanting to gain and share know-how in outdoor arts. ELEVATE masterclasses offer free and subsidised practical workshops and stimulating talks by international and nationally significant outdoor artists – people Walk the Plank think we as a UK sector can benefit from meeting and learning from.

The autumn/winter ELEVATE 2018 masterclasses will focus on performance for outdoor arts.

ELEVATE is a Walk the Plank and Manchester City Council development programme supported by Arts Council England.
