Our Brief

To create a water-borne spectacle of fire and pyrotechnics to provide the Saturday evening high point at the Lost Village Festival, Lincolnshire.

Our Solution

Lost Village is a rapidly growing festival now attracting a huge following in Lincolnshire thanks to its ambitious creative approach to the whole weekend experience.

As is now the case with many festivals, adding artistic and dramatic elements to the broader programme has become an important way in which to engage audiences with surprising or unusual content.
The organisers of Lost Village, conceived as an abandoned village lost in time, wanted us to to produce an aquatic pyrotechnic set-piece on their “Lake of Tranquility”, and which would integrate with the wider weekend-long narrative of a group of Lost Villagers (played by members of Lincoln’s Zest Theatre and directed by Toby Ealden).

Our extensive experience as pyrotechnicians and experts on water gave us a fantastic opportunity to leverage the dramatic possibilities of the lake with a spectacle that involved the creation of a floating ‘pond skater’, in effect a spider-like device with six, 6 metre arms extending from a central pontoon on which our gas flame system could be installed as well as rigging for our pyrotechnics. Further fire animation was created by lakeside-mounted fire burners with the water-borne spectacle enhanced by Charles and George, a fearless duo of canoeists rigged to the nines with pyrotechnics.
The 10 minute high point to the festival was proceeded with a torch lit procession of the Lost Village inhabitants towards the lakeside, bring added drama and anticipation to an event which culminated in one of the actors swimming across the lake to light the first fuses on the raft and commence the pyrotechnic finale.
