Liverpool Transition 2009
Liverpool's brilliant year as European Capital of Culture needed a send off to remember, a fitting reflection on an incredible time and an optimistic look forward, spreading the cultural flame. Walk the Plank Pyrotechnics were comissioned to provide a choreographed firework display on a city-wide scale that all Liverpudlians and visitors could enjoy.
Walk the Plank developed a stirring soundtrack of toe-tapping tunes from Liverpool bands including The Beatles' 'Here Comes The Sun' and The Farm's 'All Together Now' to create a harmonising backdrop synchronised with epic fireworks that could be seen for miles around.
Our pyrotechnic experts had to draw on their knowledge of rigging on the water to kit out two huge barges with over a tonne of launching equipment which were situated in the middle of the Mersey. A technical challenge that we overcame to acheive the creative dream of a wide blank canvas of open sky.
The crowd was drawn together in this, a people's celebration, and left buzzing by the breath-taking display.
Working as part of a wider event including projection onto the Liver Building, the fireworks were the finale everybody was waiting for, a crescendo to a jam packed year of culture.
